When comparing gynaecologist fees in Durban, ask what the quoted amount includes. A consultation, a scan, laboratory tests and a procedure can involve different charges. The most useful quote is one that makes these distinctions clear for your planned visit.
This guide does not set a price or promise medical-aid cover. Contact the practice for its current charges and your scheme for the benefits available on your particular option. Dr Timmal’s active consulting rooms are at Isipingo Hospital and St Augustine’s Hospital.
Ask the practice for an itemised explanation
Tell reception whether you are booking a first appointment, returning for a review or enquiring about a procedure. You do not need to describe sensitive symptoms in detail in a general website form; ask how to share information with the clinical team if needed.
- What is the current consultation fee, and what does it include?
- Are scans, screening samples or other tests charged separately if recommended?
- Could I receive a separate account from a laboratory, hospital or another practitioner?
- How is payment handled, and which documents should I bring?
- If a follow-up is needed, is there a separate charge?
Ask for written details where possible. Keep the date of the quote and check whether it remains valid when booking.
Check your own medical-aid benefits
Give your scheme the provider and proposed appointment or procedure details. Ask whether your option has network rules, referral requirements, authorisation requirements or a possible co-payment. Approval and payment are separate questions: confirm what you may still need to pay yourself. If the scheme supplies a reference number, keep it with your booking notes.
The practice can explain its fees; your medical aid must confirm your benefits. A friend’s experience with a different plan does not establish what your scheme will cover.
If the recommended plan changes
An examination may lead to a recommendation for additional tests. Ask what the test is for, whether it is urgent and how to obtain a cost estimate. If cost is a concern, say so during the consultation so that you can discuss a practical next step.
