Antenatal consultations
Appointments provide opportunities to review your health, discuss recommended investigations and plan follow-up. The schedule and tests depend on your stage of pregnancy and individual needs. Tell the practice about symptoms or concerns when booking so that appropriate advice can be given.
Bring medicine and supplement details, relevant medical records and information about previous pregnancies. If you have a long-term condition or previous complication, mention this early.
Planning for birth
Discuss your preferences, the available options and the medical factors that may affect the plan. Ask about pain relief, hospital arrangements and what might lead to a change in the proposed delivery approach. A plan should allow for decisions based on how the pregnancy and labour progress.

Support between visits
Keep your maternity contact instructions accessible. Severe pain, heavy bleeding, fainting or other urgent pregnancy concerns should be assessed immediately rather than sent through a routine website form. Your clinician should explain which symptoms to watch for in your own circumstances.
